Frequently asked questions

A little help goes a long way.

The essentials for getting your audio where you want it.

My device does not appear in SWYH

Make sure the device is powered on, connected to the same network and exposes itself as a UPnP/DLNA Media Renderer.

Some DLNA devices are Media Players rather than Renderers. They can consume the SWYH stream but cannot be remotely controlled.

I hear the sound both on my PC and on the remote device
SWYH captures the Windows audio stream independently of the local volume. SWYH can automatically mute the local playback device while streaming, or you can mute it manually from Windows.
Why is there some latency?
DLNA renderers buffer network audio before playback. The amount of delay depends mostly on the receiving device and cannot always be eliminated by SWYH.
Can I use SWYH without DLNA?
Yes. SWYH exposes HTTP stream URLs that can be opened by compatible players and devices.
Can I record the audio?
Yes. The Record page lets you save the current audio stream as an MP3 file.
Is SWYH free?
Yes. SWYH is free and open source.
Why doesn’t playback start automatically on my device?
Some UPnP/DLNA devices expose themselves as Media Players rather than Media Renderers. SWYH can provide the stream, but playback must be started directly from the device.
Does SWYH work over Bluetooth?
No. SWYH streams audio over the local network using UPnP/DLNA. Bluetooth audio devices are handled directly by Windows.
